How To

Here are 10 tips to live a healthy lifestyle

How to maintain a healthy lifestyle

We live in a fast-paced world that makes it difficult to get enough sleep, consume too much alcohol, smoke cigarettes, and eat too much. We don't take care of our body's health properly.

When you work full time and have to balance your exercise and diet, it can be very difficult to create a healthy lifestyle. It is even more difficult if you feel stressed. Then, your mind tells yourself that it cannot handle this situation any more so we feel guilty about it and give up.

If your body feels ill, it most likely is. Ask your doctor for his/her opinion about your current situation. If nothing is abnormal, it might be stress due to your job.

Some people think they're lucky because their jobs let them go to the gym on a regular basis or they have friends who help them stay fit. Those people are lucky. These people have no problems. They managed everything. I wish all people could do the same. Unfortunately, most of us don't know how to balance our work life and personal life. Many people develop bad habits that eventually lead to disease such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

Here are some ways to improve your daily life.

  1. Get 7 hours of sleep minimum and 8 hours maximum each night. This includes proper sleeping positions and avoiding caffeine during the last hour before going to bed. Caffeine blocks melatonin hormones, making it difficult to fall asleep. Make sure your bedroom is dark and clean. Blackout curtains are a must, especially if you work late at nights.
  2. Eat well - Have breakfast every morning. Avoid sugary products, fried foods, white breads, and processed food. For lunch, try to include fruits, vegetables and whole grains. It is recommended that afternoon snacks be high in fiber and protein, such as nuts and seeds, beans, fish, and dairy products. Avoid unhealthy snacks like chips, candies, cookies, cakes and sodas.
  3. Drink plenty of water - Most of us don' t drink enough water. Water aids in weight loss, skin health, digestion, and keeps our skin young and supple. Drinking six glasses of water daily will help you lose weight faster. Your urine color is the best way to determine your hydration levels. Dehydrated means yellow; slightly dehydrated means orange; normal means pink; overhydrated means red; clear means highly-overhydrated.
  4. Exercise - It has been proven that regular physical activity can improve energy levels and reduce depression. Walking is an easy way to improve your mood. Although walking may seem simple, it is not easy. It requires concentration and effort. Your brain must focus on walking and breathe slowly and deeply. For between 100 and 150 calories, a 30 minute walk can be enough to burn about 100 to 150 calories. Start slow and build up gradually. To avoid injuries, stretch after exercising.
  5. Be positive - Positive thinking is essential for mental health. When we think positively, we create a happy environment inside ourselves. Negative thinking can cause anxiety and drain your energy. Try to visualize the things you are aiming to achieve. Break down the tasks into smaller steps if you feel overwhelmed by all the new tasks. Be aware that you will fail at times, but don't despair. Just get back up and start over.
  6. Learn to say no - We often get so busy that we do not even realize how much time we waste doing unimportant things. It is important to be able to say No when needed. However, saying "no", does not necessarily mean you are rude. You are simply saying "no" to something. You will always find another way to do the job. You should set limits. You can ask someone to help you. Oder delegate this job to someone else.
  7. Take care of yourself - Pay attention to your diet. You can boost your metabolism by eating healthier foods. Avoid eating anything heavy or oily as they can raise cholesterol levels. Good advice is to eat three meals and 2 snacks each day. Aim to consume 2000-2500 calories each day.
  8. Meditate – Meditation is great for stress relief and anxiety. Your mind will relax when you sit still and close your eyes. This exercise will allow you to have clarity of thought which can be very useful in making decisions. Regular meditation practice will make you happier and calmer.
  9. Don't skip breakfast - Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Skipping breakfast can lead to eating too much lunch. As long as you have breakfast within one hour of waking up, it is not too late. Eating breakfast increases your energy level and helps you to control your hunger.
  10. Make sure you eat clean food. Food has a greater impact on your mood than you realize. Avoid junk food and other food items that have artificial or preservative ingredients. These products keep your body acidic and trigger cravings. Vegetables and fruits are high in vitamins and minerals, which can lead to better overall health.
